Dhaka, February 14 – In a resounding address following the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) landslide victory in the parliamentary elections, party chief Tarik Rahman extended heartfelt gratitude to the nation’s citizens. Describing the win as a triumph not just for his party but for Bangladesh, democracy, and the people’s aspirations, Rahman set an optimistic tone for the new era.
Speaking in Bengali, Rahman declared, ‘This victory belongs to Bangladesh, to democracy, and to the hopes of its people.’ He congratulated the populace for overcoming obstacles to reestablish democratic norms, emphasizing that the fascist regime’s disregard for the constitution and democratic principles had been decisively defeated.
Rahman assured the public of a government committed to upholding law and order nationwide. ‘We will ensure accountability in power,’ he vowed, highlighting the formation of a parliament and government directly accountable to the people through fair voting. Unity, he stressed, is essential to prevent any dictatorial resurgence or foreign domination, urging all to honor the people’s mandate.
The BNP chairman expressed profound appreciation for the trust bestowed upon his party, which secured 209 seats out of 297, with the alliance totaling 212. This public faith, he said, propels the BNP to work tirelessly for every Bangladeshi’s progress and prosperity. Despite differing paths and opinions, national unity remains the collective strength.
In conversations with international media, Rahman fondly remembered his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, noting the nation’s deep sense of loss. He extended thanks to all parties, affirming this as the true verdict of the people in the February 12 elections. As BNP prepares to reclaim power, Rahman’s words resonate as a clarion call for democratic renewal and national cohesion.
