In a shocking incident in Bangladesh’s Chapainawabganj district, two individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries when a crude bomb exploded during its assembly on Saturday morning. The blast occurred around 5 AM at a residence in Fatapara, under the Sadar upazila, as reported by local police.

Authorities revealed that the explosion took place at the home of a man named Kalam, where a group was reportedly manufacturing explosives. The force of the detonation not only claimed two lives on the spot but also severely damaged part of the house, blowing off its tin roof. The injured victims, identified as Jalur Rahman (20), Minhaj (22), and Shubo (22), were rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment. Two of them remain in critical condition.

This tragedy unfolds just days after contentious national elections marred by violence. Similar crude bombs were hurled at two polling centers on election day, Thursday, sparking fears of organized disruption. Police suspect a pattern, pointing to premeditated bomb-making activities in the area.

Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Noor-e-Alam, confirmed the details, noting that no arrests have been made yet as the homeowner fled the scene with his family. Additional Superintendent of Police NM Wasim Firoz added that investigations are underway to identify the deceased and uncover any links to larger networks, though no official connections to terrorist groups have been established.

The incident raises alarming concerns about internal security in Bangladesh, especially in the volatile post-election period. With Friday and Saturday also witnessing clashes that claimed three lives including this blast, the nation grapples with rising unrest. Neighboring countries, including India, watch closely as such events threaten regional stability. Police continue their probe, vowing to bring those responsible to justice amid heightened vigilance.
