ISLAMABAD – Tension grips Pakistan’s political landscape as concerns mount over former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s deteriorating health. PTI founder Khan, currently imprisoned, has lost 85% vision in his right eye, a revelation made in Supreme Court that has ignited fury among supporters.
The Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan (TTAAP) alliance launched a sit-in outside the Parliament House on Friday following afternoon prayers. The protest, now stretching into its second day, demands Khan’s immediate transfer from jail to a proper hospital for treatment. Demonstrators specifically call for his admission to Shifa International Hospital.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram took to X, detailing the ordeal. ‘The sit-in continues into day two. Opposition leaders are holding us like hostages inside Parliament House,’ he posted. Akram revealed that protesters spent the night inside the premises, enduring hunger as police blocked dinner and breakfast deliveries.
TTAAP leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar attempted to provide food and water to those inside but was stopped by authorities. In a post around 11 AM, Khokhar condemned the ‘insensitive’ behavior, labeling it ‘Yazidiyat’ – a term evoking extreme cruelty. ‘Trying to give food and water to friends inside Parliament, but not allowed entry. This heartless treatment has no other name,’ he wrote.
The Supreme Court heard on Thursday that only 15% vision remains in Khan’s right eye, prompting swift backlash from PTI. Party leaders accuse the establishment of deliberate neglect, fueling broader allegations of police brutality and mistreatment. As the standoff persists, Pakistan’s fragile political equilibrium hangs in balance, with Khan’s health becoming a flashpoint for opposition unity against the government.
