Nestled in the lush greenery of Chhattisgarh’s Balod district, Siyadevi Reservoir is transforming into a premier eco-tourism hotspot. The district administration has launched a vibrant three-day Eco-Adventure Fest from February 13 to 15, drawing adventure seekers with bamboo rafting, hot air balloon rides, and boating amidst stunning natural surroundings.
This initiative aims to boost tourism while showcasing local culture and empowering rural women through employment opportunities. Surrounded by dense forests and the serene waters of the reservoir near the religious site of Siyadevi, the festival kicked off on Friday with lively performances by self-help group women and local artists. Stalls brimmed with traditional snacks like thettri and khurmi, alongside handmade local products, attracting crowds eager to experience the region’s authentic flavors.
Balod MLA Sangita Sinha praised the administration’s efforts, highlighting how the reservoir’s shores are evolving into a picturesque tourism hub with government support. Collector Divya Umesh Mishra emphasized the site’s historical and religious significance, noting that the fest integrates eco-tourism with livelihood activities. All huts, shops, and even the bamboo rafts are operated by local women, fostering economic independence in this forest village.
Activities like bamboo rafting, inspired by Bastar’s traditions, offer thrilling rides on the reservoir, while hot air balloon ascents provide breathtaking aerial views of the jungle, river, and sky. Boating excursions allow visitors to immerse in the tranquil beauty. The event not only promotes sustainable tourism but also preserves cultural heritage, making Siyadevi a must-visit for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. As crowds flock to Gurur block’s Naragaon village, Balod is set to carve its niche on India’s tourism map.
