Mumbai’s political circles are buzzing with reactions to the recent electoral victory of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Bangladesh. Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde has extended congratulations to BNP chief Tarique Rahman while issuing a strong call for an end to atrocities against Hindus and other minorities.

In an exclusive interview, Hegde highlighted Tarique Rahman’s stature as a prominent leader, following in the footsteps of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. ‘We hope that under his leadership, India-Bangladesh ties will strengthen further, trade will flourish, and the longstanding brotherhood between our nations will endure,’ Hegde stated optimistically.

However, he didn’t mince words on the pressing issue of minority rights. ‘The reign of terror against Hindus must come to a complete halt. BNP’s government should prioritize protecting all minorities,’ he asserted, emphasizing that good foreign relations hinge on such assurances.

Shifting gears to domestic politics, Hegde robustly defended Prime Minister Modi’s administration against opposition criticism of the India-US trade deal. ‘Farmers are secure and empowered like never before under this government,’ he countered.

On the controversy surrounding ‘Vande Mataram,’ Hegde schooled organizations like Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. ‘It means saluting our motherland, praising the nation that shelters and protects us. Those living in India must chant ‘Jai Hind Mata’ regardless of faith, without viewing it through a religious lens,’ he declared.

In a parting shot, Hegde supported BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s demand in Lok Sabha to disqualify Rahul Gandhi’s membership. ‘Rahul speaks against the nation, opposes Operation Sindoor, and tarnishes India’s image abroad. Such anti-national activities warrant immediate action,’ Hegde concluded, urging no leniency for those undermining the country.
