JAMSHEDPUR: In a significant breakthrough, Jamshedpur police have arrested two prime suspects in the brutal murder of fruit businessman Kanhaiya Yadav, who was gunned down in broad daylight. The accused, identified as Sumit Singh and Gurupreet Singh, were nabbed following intensive raids across the city.
Acting on precise leads, officers recovered the murder weapon—a pistol—based on the duo’s disclosures. The incident, which sent shockwaves through Golmuri area on February 11, saw assailants fire relentlessly at Yadav from close range. Postmortem reports revealed two bullets in his head, one in the abdomen, and another in the leg, leading to his instant death at the scene.
Yadav’s associate, Ranjeet Sharma alias Kali, narrowly escaped by fleeing into the nearby City DSP office compound as the shooting erupted. The FIR, lodged at Golmuri police station on the complaint of Yadav’s wife Kusum Devi, named Pradeep Pathak alias Billa Pathak, Golu Pathak, Sumit Singh, Anurag Mishra, and an unidentified individual as perpetrators.
Public outrage peaked post-murder, with locals besieging the police station on Wednesday night demanding swift action. By Thursday morning, furious relatives and residents blocked Tinplate Chowk, crippling traffic. Senior police officials assured that interrogations are ongoing, with special teams scouring hideouts for remaining fugitives. ‘We will apprehend all involved soon,’ a top officer vowed, aiming to restore calm in the tense neighborhood.
