In a significant boost to Nepal’s upcoming elections, India has delivered the third batch of electoral assistance to its neighbor. The handover took place in Kathmandu at the Home Ministry, where Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava formally presented over 270 vehicles and additional materials to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal.

This latest consignment includes 50 trucks specifically for the Nepali Army, received by Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel from the ambassador. The aid aligns perfectly with Nepal’s request to bolster logistics for the polls, addressing critical needs amid preparations.

Home Minister Aryal expressed deep gratitude for India’s timely support, highlighting the profound trust and friendship between the two nations. He praised the shared democratic values that underpin their multifaceted cooperation.

Previous shipments on January 20 and 29, 2026, had already provided more than 310 vehicles and equipment. Further materials are slated for phased delivery in the coming days, ensuring comprehensive support.

This ongoing partnership reflects India’s long-standing commitment since 2008, when it first aided Nepal’s Constituent Assembly elections. The assistance comes at a crucial time, following the damage to 8,430 government vehicles during September’s Gen-Z protests, as per a government committee report. These new vehicles will alleviate logistical hurdles, enabling smoother election operations.

India-Nepal ties, rooted in mutual respect and people-to-people bonds, continue to strengthen through such developmental initiatives across sectors.
