ISLAMABAD – In a shocking revelation, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s right eye has only 15% vision remaining, his lawyer informed the Supreme Court on Thursday. This alarming health update came during a detailed report submitted by advocate Salman Safdar, who met Khan in Adiala Jail as per court orders.
Safdar’s seven-page report paints a grim picture of Khan’s deteriorating health and jail conditions. It states that Khan’s vision was perfect at 6/6 until October 2023, but blurriness soon set in his right eye. Despite repeated complaints to jail authorities, no treatment was provided for three months, leading to blood clots and irreversible damage.
During their recent meeting, Safdar noted tears streaming from Khan’s affected eye. The report urgently recommends examination by trusted doctors like Dr. Faisal Sultan or Dr. Asim Yusuf, or any qualified ophthalmologist of Khan’s choice. It demands immediate medical intervention from jail officials.
Beyond physical health, the document highlights severe mental strain from over two years of solitary confinement. Khan reportedly suffers from sleep disturbances due to heat, mosquitoes, and lack of a refrigerator in his cell, which allegedly caused food poisoning. Restrictions on meetings with lawyers, family, and personal doctors persist for five months.
The report calls for books to replace absent television access, fair legal trials, and phone contact with his sons. Reacting swiftly, the Supreme Court ordered a medical team to examine Khan’s eyes and allowed calls to his children, both to be completed before February 16.
This development underscores growing concerns over the treatment of Pakistan’s opposition leader, amid ongoing political tensions.
