In a dramatic incident in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a young man slipped and fell from a moving suburban train into the deep waters of the Vaitarna creek late Wednesday night. Thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of local residents, he was rescued unharmed.

The victim, identified as Udayan Wangad from Boisar in Palghar, was returning home on a Western Railway local train heading towards Dahanu. As the train crossed the bridge over Vaitarna creek, Udayan lost his balance while standing near the gate and plunged straight into the murky waters below.

Eyewitnesses on the train described the chaos that ensued. Passengers screamed in panic as the young man disappeared into the dark creek. Remarkably, Udayan kept his composure underwater, grabbing onto a pillar of the bridge structure to stay afloat.

Word of the mishap spread quickly to nearby villagers and fishermen. Without wasting a moment, a group of locals launched a small boat and rowed towards the struggling man. Battling the darkness and strong currents, they reached him, pulled him aboard, and brought him safely to shore.

Medical checks revealed no serious injuries, a testament to both Udayan’s resilience and the rescuers’ efficiency. Police have initiated inquiries, questioning fellow passengers and planning to interview Udayan once he’s fully recovered. His family has been informed and is by his side.

Udayan recounted standing at the open door when a sudden jolt caused him to slip. This close call has reignited debates on passenger safety in overcrowded locals, especially on bridges over water bodies. Authorities are urged to install safety barriers and awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies.
