MUMBAI: In a dramatic escalation of the bitter family feud over the late businessman Sanjay Kapoor’s vast estate, his widow Priya Kapoor has filed a civil defamation lawsuit against her sister-in-law Mandhira Kapoor in the Delhi High Court. The suit demands a staggering Rs 20 crore in damages and seeks a permanent injunction to silence Mandhira’s public statements.

Priya alleges that Mandhira has unleashed a barrage of false and damaging accusations across social media, podcasts, and interviews, tarnishing her reputation irreparably. These claims, she argues, are deliberate attempts to portray her as a greedy opportunist eyeing the entire fortune.

The dispute erupted after Sanjay Kapoor’s death, centering on his billions in assets, a contested will, and family trusts. Sanjay, who had three marriages, left behind children from his first wife Karishma and a son with Priya. Multiple lawsuits now clog courts over inheritance shares, will validity, and trust distributions.

This civil action follows Priya’s earlier criminal defamation case against Mandhira and podcaster Pooja Choudhary in Patiala House Court, where notices have been issued. Mandhira has countered that her statements are truthful, framing the battle as one for justice rather than money.

As legal tempers flare, the Kapoor family saga underscores how grief can fracture even the wealthiest dynasties, with high-stakes courtroom dramas set to reveal intimate family secrets and financial empires.
