In a tragic incident on National Highway-9 in East Delhi’s Ghazipur area, a Kia Seltos car collided head-on with a stationary container truck near the MCD toll booth on Thursday morning. The horrific crash claimed the lives of two women on the spot and left three others injured.
The accident occurred in front of Vinod Nagar Depot, where the car, heading towards Ghaziabad, slammed into the truck with such force that its front end was embedded in the container. Police rushed to the scene after receiving a PCR call and initiated immediate rescue operations.
The victims included Deepanjali, 38, and Neelam Garg, 55, who succumbed to their injuries instantly. The driver, Deepanshu Garg, along with two young children, Vivan (5) and Vashu (3), sustained serious injuries. All three were promptly admitted to Max Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are reported to be out of danger.
Forensic teams combed the site for evidence, and CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed to ascertain the exact cause. Preliminary investigations point to the driver possibly dozing off, exacerbated by early morning fog conditions.
Authorities have registered a case and informed the families of the deceased. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. In response to rising accidents, Delhi Police is intensifying awareness campaigns on safe driving in fog and low visibility, alongside increased patrolling on highways.
This devastating event underscores the perils of highway travel during adverse weather, urging commuters to exercise utmost caution and adhere to speed limits.
