Chaos erupted in Samastipur’s Dalsinghsarai late Friday evening when bike-borne criminals unleashed a barrage of bullets near the Indian Bank on the subdivisional hospital road. A young man became the first target, sparking panic as residents fled in terror. The brazen daylight attack has left traders and locals gripped by fear, highlighting rising lawlessness in Bihar’s heartland.

Pappu Paswan from Loknathpur Belwana had just arrived on his bike when three assailants confronted him. What started as a heated argument quickly escalated into violence. One gunman fired directly into Pappu’s leg, sending him crumpling to the ground. As gunfire echoed through the streets, bystanders rushed to the scene, their shock turning to outrage.

In a shocking twist, Rekha Devi, wife of local resident Ramesh Sah, intervened to de-escalate the situation. The criminals, undeterred, warned her off before shooting her in the hand. The wounded woman was rushed to Samastipur Sadar Hospital, where doctors stabilized her condition amid heightened security.

Enraged locals gave chase to the fleeing attackers. They cornered one suspect, Sunny Kumar, 24, son of Baleshwar Paswan from Loknathpur. In a fit of mob fury, the crowd beat him mercilessly, leading to his death. Eyewitnesses confirmed Sunny was the shooter who had terrorized the area moments earlier. Police arrived swiftly, extracting his body from the mob and declaring him dead on arrival.

DSP Vivek Kumar Sharma led the initial probe, revealing the incident stemmed from a longstanding feud. CCTV footage from nearby areas is under scrutiny, with raids underway for the two escaped gunmen. Extra police forces from multiple stations have been deployed to camp in Dalsinghsarai, patrolling restlessly to restore calm. Residents demand swift arrests, and authorities have vowed rigorous action against all involved.

This violent episode underscores the urgent need for bolstered security in Bihar’s smaller towns, where personal vendettas too often explode into public gunfights. As investigations deepen, the community holds its breath for justice.
