New Delhi buzzes with anticipation as Team India gears up for their second match in the T20 World Cup 2026 against Namibia. The clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday promises fireworks, especially with all-rounder Washington Sundar making a triumphant return.
Sundar, who last played nearly a month ago in the ODI series against New Zealand, suffered an injury while bowling in the first match in Vadodara. Sidelined for the rest of the series and the subsequent T20s, the off-spinner underwent rigorous rehabilitation at BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.
In a BCCI-released video, Sundar channeled a popular Tamil film dialogue, signaling his comeback with flair: ‘Tell them I’m back.’ His enthusiasm was palpable during Wednesday’s intense training session. ‘Training with the boys here feels great,’ he said. ‘Our session was high-intensity, and we met all expectations. The fielding drills were top-notch, and I got plenty of bowling and batting practice.’
Reflecting on his rehab, Sundar added, ‘The last three weeks were crucial. I worked hard to get tournament-ready, and now I’m eager for the match ahead.’ On Tuesday, he participated in fielding drills and bowled to Tilak Varma alongside Kuldeep Yadav. Team management, including head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, closely monitored his progress during extended discussions.
India kicked off their campaign with a commanding 29-run victory over USA in Mumbai. Next up is Namibia on February 12, followed by Pakistan on the 15th and Netherlands on the 18th in the league stage. Sundar’s return bolsters an already formidable squad, setting the stage for another strong performance.
With his side strain and rib injury behind him, Sundar is primed to contribute with bat and ball. Fans are thrilled to see the 24-year-old back in action, ready to make an impact in this crucial group stage encounter.
