Delhi’s public transport landscape is set for a monumental upgrade as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announces ambitious expansions for its Magenta Line, poised to become the network’s longest corridor. Spanning from Noida Botanical Garden to Indralok, this extended line will stretch nearly 89 kilometers, incorporating 17 new interchange stations that promise seamless connectivity across the capital.
The transformative project, part of Phases 4 and 5, will see the line evolve from Pink to Magenta designation due to its unprecedented length. Currently featuring just four interchanges—Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden, Janakpuri West, and Hauz Khas—the line will balloon to 21 interchanges post-expansion. Key additions include Kalindi Kunj, Chirag Delhi, Terminal-1 IGI Airport, Peeragarhi, Pitampura (Madhuban Chowk), Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pul Bangash, Nabi Karim, R.K. Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Indraprastha, Delhi Gate, New Delhi, and Indralok.
Among these, standout triple interchange hubs at Central Secretariat, Azadpur, New Delhi, and Indralok will serve as vital nerve centers, linking multiple lines and easing commutes to every corner of Delhi-NCR. With 65 stations in total—40 underground—the corridor will operate as a fully driverless metro, enhancing efficiency and safety.
DMRC Executive Director Anuj Dayal highlighted the project’s role in revolutionizing cross-city mobility. ‘This extension will knit Delhi’s transport web tighter, reducing travel times and congestion,’ he stated. Expected to finish in phases, the development aligns with the growing demand for reliable transit in a bustling metropolis.
Residents can look forward to smoother journeys to airports, business districts, and residential areas. As Delhi pushes towards sustainable urban growth, the Magenta Line’s expansion stands as a beacon of progress, underscoring the city’s commitment to world-class infrastructure.
