In the glittering world of Bollywood, where family legacies and on-set camaraderie create enduring bonds, veteran actress Himani Shivpuri recently took fans down memory lane. Recalling her time on the sets of Rishi Kapoor’s directorial debut ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ from 1999, Shivpuri shared a nostalgic photo with Ranbir Kapoor, highlighting the warmth and humility that defined those days.

The film, though a modest performer at the box office, captured hearts with its melodious tracks and a compelling storyline set against the backdrop of romance in America. Aishwarya Rai and Akshaye Khanna’s sizzling chemistry remains a highlight even today. Shivpuri, who played the memorable character Nikki alongside an ensemble of stars, revealed how a young Ranbir would frequently visit the sets during his studies abroad.

‘Ranbir made me feel so special,’ Shivpuri recounted in her post. ‘He stood up, touched my feet, and complimented how I hadn’t changed a bit. What charm and values!’ She reminisced about Rishi Kapoor, affectionately called Chintu ji, encouraging Ranbir to spend time with her, watching plays and musicals together.

Those shoots in America were a whirlwind of fun. Shivpuri’s first trip there involved not just shopping but immersing in Broadway magic. Joined by Ranbir’s gracious hosting, the group—including Satish Kaushik, Paresh Rawal, Bhatti ji, Saroj Khan, and occasionally Aishwarya—caught shows like ‘Cats,’ ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ and ‘Sound of Music.’ ‘What incredible times,’ she sighed.

Rishi Kapoor’s passion for direction shone through in this sole venture behind the camera, where he mentored his son Ranbir, bringing him to learn the ropes. Shivpuri watched Ranbir grow from a eager student to a superstar, their bond a testament to Bollywood’s familial spirit. These stories remind us of the industry’s human side amid the glamour.
