In a shocking incident from Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, a 27-year-old woman allegedly murdered her own father by slitting his throat late at night. The gruesome event unfolded in Limamunda Basti, Raliya village under Hardi Bazar police station limits. The victim, 55-year-old Ashok Kumar Kevat, was found dead in a pool of blood.
Police swiftly responded, securing the body and sending it for postmortem examination. Ashok’s wife and three daughters had been living separately from him for nearly eight years in Korba’s Adil Chowk area. Family sources reveal that constant suspicions over his wife and eldest daughter’s character led to frequent fights, forcing the women to move out. Two daughters work in private firms, while the third is pursuing studies.
On February 9, the family visited the village for land compensation-related matters and stayed overnight. Around 2 AM, a heated argument erupted between Ashok and his eldest daughter Geeta Kevat. Witnesses say Ashok used abusive language, igniting Geeta’s fury. In a fit of rage, she grabbed a sickle from the house and slashed her father’s throat.
Geeta then calmly stepped out and informed relatives, ‘I have killed him.’ Ashok’s brother Santosh rushed to the scene, finding the patriarch lifeless. Hardi Bazar police arrested Geeta immediately. Initial probes indicate Ashok was a heavy drinker, with longstanding family tensions simmering beneath the surface.
Investigators are delving deeper into the motives, including whether a prior social media controversy involving Geeta—a video with a young man that sparked a cyber cell complaint—played a role. This tragedy underscores the devastating impact of unresolved family conflicts, leaving the community reeling in disbelief.
