In a dramatic pre-dawn operation, Bihar Police and the Special Task Force (STF) cornered notorious gangster Rajiv Kumar alias Surya Don under the Mahatma Gandhi Setu in Patna’s Gayghat area. The Monday morning encounter unfolded after tip-offs revealed Surya Don’s plans to extort money from local boatmen and residents.
Acting on intelligence received late Sunday night by Alamganj police station, authorities verified the information and launched a joint operation with STF. As dawn broke, teams cordoned off the suspect area, lying in wait for the criminal mastermind known for his violent exploits.
When police approached, Surya Don opened fire, sparking a brief but intense shootout. In self-defense, officers returned fire, striking him in the leg. The injured don was swiftly apprehended and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains under treatment and tight security.
Recovered from the scene was a foreign-made pistol along with live cartridges. Forensic teams scoured the site, collecting crucial evidence. Investigations are underway to trace the weapon’s origin and uncover Surya Don’s broader network.
City SP East Parichay Kumar revealed that preliminary probes link the gangster to 15-20 serious cases, including murders, robberies, dacoities, and violations under the Arms Act. ‘His criminal history is extensive, and we’re digging deeper into all pending cases,’ the SP stated. This encounter marks a significant blow to organized crime in the region, sending a strong message to other fugitives.
