Patna’s cultural scene just got a major endorsement from Bollywood star Manoj Bajpayee. On Tuesday, the Padma Shri awardee visited the Bihar Museum, where he delved into the state’s ambitious plans to step beyond its literary and folk art heritage into the world of cinema and theater.
Speaking to reporters after touring the museum’s exhibits, Bajpayee highlighted Bihar’s new Film Promotion Policy. ‘Bihar isn’t content with just literature and folk arts anymore,’ he declared. ‘It’s ready to make its mark nationally in filmmaking and theater.’ Bajpayee revealed his involvement in crafting this policy from its inception, noting how it’s already drawing filmmakers from across India.
The policy promises to boost Bihar’s cultural and economic growth by providing incentives for shoots, technical support, and training hubs. Bajpayee envisioned a future where local youth seize opportunities in acting and production, fueled by the state’s rich social narratives and historical backdrop—perfect fodder for compelling cinema showcased on national and global stages.
During his museum visit, Bajpayee immersed himself in artifacts spanning the Stone Age to the Mughal era. From pottery and tools to sculptures and toys, these relics painted a vivid picture of Bihar’s historical journey through Mauryan, Magadha, and Gupta periods. He praised the museum for bringing India’s civilization to life in such an engaging way.
In discussions with Art and Culture Secretary Pranav Kumar, Bajpayee emphasized how the policy is redefining Bihar’s cinematic identity, benefiting actors and producers alike. He commended the department’s efforts in blending modernity with heritage preservation, calling the museum a source of pride for the entire nation.
