Bengaluru’s political corridors are buzzing as Home Minister G Parameshwara provided the latest update on the shocking suicide of Confident Group chairman CJ Roy. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Parameshwara revealed that investigators are actively pursuing leads from Dubai, where Roy had significant business ties.
The industrialist’s death came amid an Income Tax raid at his Bengaluru office. Roy, found alone in his first-floor chamber, allegedly shot himself. IT officials rushed him to a hospital upon hearing the gunshot, but he was declared dead on arrival.
‘Details are being gathered from Dubai, and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has the discretion to question IT officials,’ Parameshwara stated. He emphasized a thorough probe into all angles, including tax-related matters, with a detailed report to follow.
No suicide note was discovered, but the SIT has seized Roy’s diary and other materials. Rumors swirling about politicians’ names in the diary were firmly dismissed by the minister, who insisted on awaiting the final report.
Parameshwara’s comments come at a sensitive time, with the Confident Group under scrutiny for financial irregularities. The investigation’s focus on international connections underscores the complexity of Roy’s business empire, spanning real estate and beyond.
In a related development, the minister addressed the rehabilitation of surrendered Maoists, announcing the appointment of public prosecutors in Shivamogga, Udupi, and Chikkamagaluru districts to expedite case closures. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approved the move to honor government commitments.
On Deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s Delhi trip, Parameshwara defended it as routine party business, urging media to focus on substantive issues rather than leadership speculation.
As the SIT delves deeper, Bengaluru watches closely for revelations that could shake Karnataka’s industrial and political landscapes.
