Dubai is buzzing with anticipation as the stage is set at the Dubai Club for People of Determination Ground for the prestigious Dubai 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix. This high-stakes event, running from February 10 to 13, will see elite para athletes from 56 nations, totaling around 500 competitors, battle it out to secure minimum qualification standards for major upcoming tournaments.

India has made a strong statement by fielding a 50-member delegation packed with its top talents. Leading the charge are Paris 2024 champions Sumit Antil in javelin throw (F64) and Navdeep (F41), alongside double medalist Preeti Pal from Paris and Paralympic bronze winner Simran in women’s 200m T12. These athletes are not just participants; they’re medal contenders aiming to build momentum for the season ahead.

The competition draws global stars, including Belgium’s Maxime Carabin, a Paris 2024 Paralympic champion and five-time world titleholder, who promises thrilling performances in his events. Canada’s Austin Smeenk, fresh off gold in men’s 800m T34 and bronze in 100m T34 at Paris, adds another layer of excitement as one of the athletes to watch.

Host nation UAE boasts 65 para athletes, with young gun Mohammad Yousuf Othman – a bronze medalist from the recent World Championships in New Delhi – spearheading the track campaign. Women’s efforts will be driven by Rio 2016 medalist Sara Aljenabi (women’s shot put F33), Noura AlKetebi (F32), and Kobe 2024 World champion Mariam AlJeyoudi (F40).

Othman shared his enthusiasm ahead of the event: ‘My preparation for the new season has been solid. I’m targeting strong performances at this home event and throughout the season, with the Asian Para Games as my major goal.’

Event chair Thani Juma Beredgad emphasized the legacy: ‘Since its launch in 2009, the Fazaa Para Athletics Championship has upheld the highest standards. Following the success of Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, we’re committed to excellence across the board.’

Fazaa International Championship director Majid Al-Osaimi highlighted the broader impact: ‘Through years of dedication, Fazaa has empowered people of determination to excel, integrate into society, and share inspiring sports stories on a global platform.’

As the Grand Prix unfolds, expect fierce rivalries, record-breaking attempts, and stories of resilience that redefine limits in para athletics.
