New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi unleashed a scathing attack on Pakistan for its embarrassing U-turn on boycotting the T20 World Cup match against India. Calling the entire episode a ‘joke,’ she questioned both the BCCI and Pakistan’s seriousness amid heightened national tensions.
‘This is utterly shameful,’ Chaturvedi declared, pointing out how Pakistan first announced a boycott only to backtrack later. ‘If they had any shred of dignity, they would have stuck to their decision and outright refused to play. The whole nation watched in anticipation, only to witness this flip-flopping farce that exposes Pakistan’s irresponsibility.’
She indirectly targeted the BCCI, urging the public to scrutinize the board’s handling of the situation. Chaturvedi highlighted the government’s post-‘Operation Sindoor’ policy, where the Prime Minister vowed zero tolerance for terrorism—no trade, no talks, no concessions to Pakistan. ‘How can we ignore questions about playing cricket with them now?’ she asked.
Turning to parliamentary affairs, the MP criticized the Treasury benches for relentlessly attacking the opposition and undermining democratic processes. She referenced heated debates involving books, including one by a former Army Chief, which sparked massive uproar without the Prime Minister bothering to intervene personally.
‘Such disruptions are a danger to our democratic traditions,’ Chaturvedi warned, emphasizing the need for mature conduct in the House. Her remarks come at a time when India-Pakistan relations remain strained, blending sports diplomacy with serious security concerns.
