In a blistering attack, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP of openly promoting hatred and violence against Muslims, undermining India’s constitutional ethos. The outspoken leader took to Facebook on Monday to condemn a controversial video shared from Assam BJP’s official handle, which appears to show Sarma inciting violence against the Muslim community.

This shocking footage has sent ripples through the secular fabric of society, Vijayan asserted, highlighting the perilous trajectory of BJP’s politics. He described the act as unprecedented and deeply alarming, especially coming from someone holding a constitutional office. Such provocations strike at the heart of India’s democratic and secular foundations, he warned.

Vijayan linked this incident to a pattern of divisive rhetoric from Sarma, including derogatory remarks against Assam’s ‘Miya’ Muslim community. These are not isolated slips but part of BJP’s inhumane strategy to polarize voters ahead of Assam’s assembly elections, he charged. By stoking communal tensions, they are willing to challenge constitutional values for majority consolidation.

Questioning the suitability of such a leader to govern in a secular republic, Vijayan asked how statements akin to calls for minority genocide can be tolerated. He criticized the BJP national leadership’s silence as tacit approval, noting that Sarma voices what the party and RSS hesitate to say publicly.

Recalling Sarma’s shift from Congress stalwart to BJP in 2015, Vijayan portrayed him as the architect of BJP’s communal playbook in the Northeast. The lack of disciplinary action against him proves these views align with the party’s core ideology, he concluded, urging vigilance against this threat to national unity.
