New Delhi witnessed a pivotal diplomatic engagement on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held fruitful discussions with Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie. Describing the meeting as a cornerstone for bilateral ties, PM Modi emphasized Seychelles’ crucial role in India’s ambitious ‘Ocean Vision’ for the Indian Ocean region.

In a post on X accompanied by photos, PM Modi stated, ‘A successful meeting with President of Seychelles Dr. Patrick Herminie this morning. His visit comes at a time when Seychelles is marking 50 years of independence and 50 years of India-Seychelles relations. Our nations are bound by a shared vision for history and the future. As a maritime neighbor and trusted partner, Seychelles is a key part of India’s Ocean Vision.’

The leaders delved into a wide array of bilateral issues, covering trade, security, and development. PM Modi congratulated President Herminie on his electoral victory in October 2025, underscoring the people-centric nature of their partnership that bolsters security and stability in the Western Indian Ocean.

President Herminie praised India as a reliable partner for Seychelles and the region, expressing gratitude for long-term support in development initiatives. The duo reaffirmed the importance of regular high-level exchanges and consultations.

In a major announcement, India unveiled a $175 million special economic package to enhance cooperation in housing, health, defense, e-mobility, and maritime security. Addressing a joint press conference, PM Modi highlighted that India-Seychelles relations transcend diplomacy, rooted deeply in history and culture.

This meeting not only strengthens strategic ties but also signals India’s commitment to fostering regional stability through collaborative maritime initiatives. As both nations celebrate milestone anniversaries, their partnership sets a model for neighborhood diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific.
