Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in sustainable logistics, transporting over 5.85 lakh vehicles via Indian Railways in 2025 alone. This marks an impressive 18% surge compared to the previous year, underscoring the company’s commitment to green transportation.

The shift highlights a dramatic evolution: railway’s share in vehicle dispatches jumped from a modest 5.1% in 2016 to 26% in 2025. This transition has significantly slashed carbon emissions, eased pressure on India’s oil imports, and decongested busy highways nationwide.

Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi hailed it as the highest-ever rail delivery volume for the company. ‘We’ve delivered more than 5.85 lakh units by rail this year,’ he stated, emphasizing two key achievements: the launch of India’s largest in-plant automobile railway siding at the Manesar facility and the pioneering rail delivery to Kashmir Valley via the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River.

Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki aims to elevate rail transport share to 35% by fiscal year 2030-31, aligning with India’s net-zero carbon goal by 2070. Since FY 2014-15, the firm has moved over 28 lakh units to more than 600 cities using a hub-and-spoke model from 22 locations.

Currently deploying over 45 flexi-deck rakes, each carrying around 260 vehicles per trip, Maruti Suzuki sourced 53% of its 2025 rail deliveries from Gujarat and Manesar sidings. The company’s ‘Circular Mobility’ strategy spans the entire vehicle lifecycle—from design and manufacturing to logistics and end-of-life vehicle management—targeting reduced carbon footprints at every stage.

Takeuchi reiterated Maruti’s ongoing efforts to minimize environmental impact across the vehicle lifecycle, positioning rail as a safe, cost-effective, and eco-friendly transport mode.
