Patna erupted in political fireworks on Monday as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unleashed a sharp verbal attack on former Chief Minister Rabri Devi during a heated session of the Bihar Legislative Council. The confrontation began almost immediately after proceedings commenced, with opposition members from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) raising a ruckus over the state’s deteriorating law and order situation.
Nitish Kumar, visibly irritated, rose from his seat to counter the opposition’s allegations. In a moment that stunned the house, he pointed towards Rabri Devi and remarked, ‘This girl… what does she know?’ He accused the opposition of doing nothing but creating noise, specifically targeting the women members led by Rabri Devi. ‘You people have done nothing… you only know how to shout,’ he thundered, demanding action against the disruptors.
The opposition, undeterred, continued their sloganeering under Rabri Devi’s leadership. Tensions escalated as Kumar defended his government’s achievements, highlighting Bihar’s progress with full support from the central government. ‘Bihar is moving forward like never before,’ he asserted, contrasting it with the opposition’s alleged inaction during their tenure.
Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh repeatedly urged the opposition to sit down while the Chief Minister spoke, but the clamor persisted. The session, marked by mutual accusations, ultimately had to be adjourned until 2:30 PM amid the chaos. Even as the house was suspended, two bills—the Bihar Municipal Corporation Service Rules 2025 and Bihar Municipal Service Rules 2025—were tabled.
This isn’t the first time Nitish Kumar has clashed with RJD leaders recently. Just days earlier, he had rebuked Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav in the assembly, calling him a ‘child’ and telling him to stay quiet, even referencing his father Lalu Prasad Yadav. The ongoing rivalry underscores the deep-seated political animosities in Bihar’s corridors of power, with law and order emerging as a flashpoint ahead of future electoral battles.
