Patna, February 8. In a significant development, independent MP from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, was shifted from Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) to Beur Central Jail under tight police security on Monday. The transfer came after his health showed improvement following his dramatic arrest last week.
The arrest unfolded like a high-voltage thriller late Friday night when Patna police raided his Mandiri residence, executing a 31-year-old warrant in a property fraud case. Pappu Yadav, known for his fiery political persona, was produced in court the next day and remanded to two days of judicial custody. Supporters clashed verbally with police during the operation, leading to FIRs against the MP and 20 unidentified persons for obstructing government work.
Initially taken to IGIMS and then to PMCH for medical checks, Yadav’s condition stabilized by Sunday. PMCH doctors cleared him for jail transfer on Monday after a final examination. The case originates from 1995 at Gardanibagh police station, where complainant Vinod Bihari Lal accused Yadav of deceitfully renting his house for an office without disclosing intentions. Court proceedings had issued an attachment warrant due to repeated non-appearance.
As the next hearing looms today, this episode reignites debates on aging legal cases against politicians. Pappu Yadav’s supporters claim political vendetta, while authorities insist on due process. The transfer marks a new chapter in this long-simmering dispute, with the legal battle far from over.
