Jammu, February 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday to assess the progress of key development projects in Jammu and Kashmir. The discussions covered critical sectors including road infrastructure, hydroelectric projects, power supply, industry, tourism, 4G connectivity, and optical fiber networks.
Attendees included Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from both central and union territory governments. Shah emphasized the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a developed and prosperous region.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, unprecedented strides have been made in development initiatives across the union territory. Shah highlighted the need to fully harness the potential of hydroelectric projects and ensure 100% saturation of government welfare schemes, guaranteeing benefits reach every intended recipient.
The Minister stressed integrating youth into the development process by building sports infrastructure and establishing sports academies. Plans are underway to invest around Rs 200 crore in collaboration with various sports bodies. Additionally, efforts through the National Dairy Development Board aim to boost the dairy sector in the region.
In a landmark move, Jammu and Kashmir has been included for the first time in the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme for FY 2025-26, providing interest-free loans for 50 years to fund capital projects. Shah underscored the importance of strong financial discipline to stabilize the union territory’s fiscal deficit over time.
Addressing the gathering, Shah declared that India is accelerating towards the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. The central government will continue extending full support to Jammu and Kashmir in achieving this vision. His visit reaffirms the nation’s top priority on the region’s development, peace, and security.
