In a shocking incident from Jharkhand’s Kodarma district, ten children from the vulnerable Birhor tribal community have been missing for over a week. These kids, belonging to a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), disappeared on January 31 while returning from a shraddh ceremony in Parsabad, about 15 kilometers from their village in Khariodih Panchayat under Jaynagar police station.
Around 60-70 villagers had attended the post-death ritual. While the adults made it back to Gadiyai Birhor Tola, the ten innocent children aged between 8 and 14 years did not. Families searched relentlessly among relatives and nearby villages but found no trace, prompting them to alert the police.
The sudden vanishing of so many children has sparked fears of human trafficking. Local activists and residents are deeply concerned, demanding swift action. DSP (Trainee) Divakar Kumar revealed that multiple police teams are scouring CCTV footage from Parsabad and surrounding areas. Surveillance has been ramped up at railway stations, bus stands, and national highways to track any vehicle movements.
Police are coordinating with neighboring districts, leaving no stone unturned. Jaynagar SHO Uma Nath Singh assured the frantic families that every effort is underway to bring the children home safely. The Birhor Tola remains gripped by fear, with parents weeping endlessly, unable to fathom how a simple family event turned into a nightmare.
This case underscores the precarious lives of PVTGs in remote areas, where basic safety nets are often absent. Authorities must expedite investigations to prevent further tragedies and restore faith in the system. As searches continue, the community holds onto hope amid growing despair.
