In a sharp backlash sweeping across India’s religious circles, prominent saints and temple heads in Ayodhya have slammed Netflix’s upcoming film ‘Ghussor Pandit’ for its provocative title. They warn that the movie’s name and content could ignite communal tensions and erode India’s fragile social harmony.

The controversy erupted as religious leaders united in condemnation, labeling the film a deliberate attack on the priestly class. Mahant Sitaram Das of Saket Bhawan Temple in Ayodhya expressed deep outrage, calling the title ‘disgraceful and condemnable.’ ‘Targeting an entire community with derogatory labels fosters prejudice and division,’ he stated firmly.

Das questioned the filmmakers’ selective outrage, asking why similar corrupt practices in other communities aren’t highlighted. ‘The Brahmin society has always been tolerant and devoted to national service. Picking on such a peaceful group is utterly reprehensible,’ he added.

Echoing these sentiments, Mahant Dr. Deveshacharya of Siddh Peeth Hanuman Garhi demanded accountability from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). ‘How does the censor board approve content that sows seeds of conflict and humiliation?’ he asked. He called for strict action, a nationwide ban, and a public apology from the producers to the entire Brahmin community.

Sant Amit Das from Hanuman Garhi went further, urging an immediate halt to the film’s release. ‘Such portrayals send toxic messages, pitting communities against each other. The board must act swiftly to prevent hatred from spreading,’ he asserted.

This uproar highlights growing concerns over media representations that stereotype religious figures. As debates rage online and in temple corridors, the film risks becoming a flashpoint in broader discussions on cultural sensitivity and artistic freedom. Religious leaders vow to escalate their protests unless the title is changed and apologies issued, emphasizing that social unity must prevail over commercial gains.
