Lucknow erupted in controversy on Thursday as police registered an FIR against the director and team of the Netflix web series ‘Ghooskhore Pandit’. The move comes amid growing outrage from the Brahmin community, who accuse the show of insulting their caste through its provocative title and content.

According to Lucknow Police Commissionerate, the action follows direct instructions from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath. The FIR was lodged at Hazratganj police station under serious charges, alleging that the series aims to disrupt social harmony and hurt religious and caste sentiments.

Hazratganj SHO Vikram Singh detailed that the series, streaming on Netflix and widely shared on social media, targets the Brahmin community with its title ‘Ghooskhore Pandit’, implying bribery and corruption linked to priests. This has sparked widespread anger among Brahmin organizations and social groups, who have warned of aggressive protests if the content isn’t removed.

‘Preliminary investigations suggest the director and production team deliberately released this to incite enmity, disturb peace, and fracture communal unity,’ Singh stated. The police have invoked stringent sections of the law in the FIR, with further legal proceedings underway.

Emphasizing the state’s zero-tolerance policy, the officer assured that anyone tampering with community sentiments or public order will face the strictest action. The controversy highlights ongoing tensions around OTT content in India, where creators increasingly face scrutiny for material deemed offensive.

As the investigation progresses, all eyes are on Netflix’s response and potential court interventions. This incident underscores the delicate balance between artistic freedom and societal sensitivities in the digital age.
