In a shocking incident from Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, burglars took audacity to a new level by kidnapping a 90-year-old woman along with her cot to plunder her silver ornaments. The crime unfolded in Kothiya village under Aravard area, leaving the community in disbelief.

The frail elderly woman, identified as Chhoti Devi, was asleep on her cot in the veranda of her home when the intruders struck late Wednesday night. The thieves, driven by greed for her 1.5 kilograms of traditional silver jewelry, silenced her and carried her entire bed to a nearby field. There, they bound her hands and feet before fleeing into the darkness.

Chhoti Devi is the mother-in-law of former sarpanch Nathi Devi Mali. The criminals first secured the rest of the family by locking them inside their rooms from the outside, turning the house into a fortress of fear. Family members awoke to the commotion, raised alarms, and villagers rushed to break open the locks.

A frantic search ensued, and soon the helpless woman was discovered tied up in the field. Thanks to the swift response, the thieves failed to make off with the precious silver. Police arrived promptly, launching a manhunt and investigation.

This brazen robbery comes just days after a brutal murder in nearby Sawai Madhopur district, where another woman was killed for her silver jewelry. Authorities note a disturbing trend: rising silver prices are fueling attacks on rural elderly women wearing heirloom ornaments.

Villagers are demanding better night patrols and security measures. As the probe deepens, questions swirl about how such a physically demanding crime could occur undetected. The incident underscores the vulnerability of seniors in remote areas and the urgent need for heightened vigilance.
