LUCKNOW: In a stern warning to those peddling dangerous Chinese kite string, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared that any death caused by this banned item will be treated as equivalent to murder. Speaking on the rising incidents of accidents involving the lethal manja, the CM emphasized zero tolerance for its proliferation across the state.
The provocative statement came during a high-level meeting where Yogi directed police forces to launch a statewide crackdown. ‘Chinese manja is completely banned, yet its availability remains a serious concern,’ he stated, ordering intensive raids not just on sales but also storage and transportation networks.
Under the new directive, special campaigns will dismantle the entire supply chain of the hazardous string, which has claimed numerous lives, including those of children, birds, and animals. Yogi mandated regular reviews at the highest levels to ensure strict enforcement and prevent any lapses.
Public safety is non-negotiable, the CM asserted. This glass-coated string poses an imminent threat, slicing through flesh and causing fatal injuries during kite-flying festivals like Makar Sankranti. Authorities have already geared up for widespread operations, promising severe legal action against violators.
The move underscores the government’s commitment to eradicating this menace. Past incidents, where unsuspecting commuters on bikes or pedestrians suffered grievous cuts from airborne strings, have highlighted the urgency. Yogi’s administration aims to make Uttar Pradesh free from this killer thread once and for all, prioritizing lives over traditions that endanger them.
