In a remarkable gesture of recognition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally invited BJP councilors from Thiruvananthapuram for a special dinner at his official residence in New Delhi on February 13. This celebration marks the party’s unprecedented victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation elections, shattering over four decades of Left Democratic Front (LDF) dominance in the region.
The win, described by the BJP as a ‘golden victory,’ saw the party secure 50 seats in the 101-member council, gaining control with the support of an independent councilor. For the first time, BJP has broken through in this southern bastion, signaling a shift in Kerala’s political landscape ahead of state assembly polls.
Mayor VV Rajesh, leading the triumphant delegation, will join all 50 councilors as they travel by Kerala Express train from February 9. BJP units across states will host welcome events at major stops, turning the journey into a nationwide spectacle of jubilation.
Beyond the PM’s dinner, the group plans visits to Delhi’s iconic national monuments. Party leaders aim to elevate this local triumph into a national milestone, with the unveiling of the Thiruvananthapuram Development Document anticipated during the trip.
PM Modi had earlier hailed the results as the ‘dawn of a new era,’ penned in ‘golden letters.’ He sent personal congratulatory letters to Mayor Rajesh and Deputy Mayor Asha Nath, underscoring the center’s high stakes in this breakthrough. Despite BJP’s absence from Kerala’s 140-member assembly, this municipal success highlights growing momentum.
