In a swift crackdown ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Delhi Police arrested two individuals accused of scrawling pro-Khalistan slogans across the capital to incite unrest. The joint operation by the Special Cell and Rohini district police nabbed Baljinder and Rohit alias Keerath from the city, foiling what investigators describe as a meticulously planned disruption.
The duo allegedly painted provocative messages like ‘Pro-Khalistan’ and ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ at two separate locations in Delhi. Probe revelations point to a transnational conspiracy orchestrated by Canada-based Khalistani figure Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. A close associate of Pannun reportedly hired the suspects, luring them with a Rs 2 lakh payoff to execute the graffiti campaign aimed at creating tension just days before January 26.
Baljinder, an ambulance driver in Delhi, and his associate Rohit were motivated by financial incentives to challenge law and order. Interrogations have uncovered deeper links, with police suspecting more accomplices in Pannun’s network still at large. This arrest follows an FIR lodged against Pannun on January 23 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections targeting criminal conspiracy, threats to India’s sovereignty, and national security breaches.
The trigger was a viral social media video where Pannun boasted of sleeper cells pasting pro-Khalistan posters in areas like Rohini and Dabri. Delhi Police’s proactive measures underscore their vigilance against foreign-backed destabilization efforts, ensuring the Republic Day fervor remained undisturbed. Further questioning continues to dismantle this shadowy operation.
