New Delhi witnessed a passionate defense of India’s economic trajectory as Leader of the House JP Nadda addressed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Speaking on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, Nadda outlined a clear roadmap toward Viksit Bharat by 2047, emphasizing the strategic actions mapped out for 2026 and the next five years.
Nadda highlighted the relentless wave of economic milestones unfolding in recent days. ‘Revolution after revolution has swept through our economic landscape,’ he declared. This includes the landmark trade agreement with the European Union, the comprehensive Economic Survey, the transformative Union Budget, and the pivotal Indo-US deal. These developments, he noted, form a powerful chain propelling India forward.
Diving into the Economic Survey, Nadda underscored its bold assertion that India remains the fastest-growing major economy. He quoted the World Economic Forum chief, who projected India’s contribution to global growth at 20 percent. ‘This isn’t our claim—it’s from the WEF chief himself,’ Nadda affirmed, reinforcing the credibility of India’s ascent.
The EU trade pact, dubbed the ‘Mother of All Deals,’ opens doors across 27 nations for Indian businesses, artisans, entrepreneurs, and IT professionals. Nadda described it as a game-changer for job creation. He also spotlighted the India-Oman agreement, positioning the Middle East as a strategic corridor for energy and trade, while strengthening the Link West policy.
Further agreements with New Zealand and the UK were praised for benefiting farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and women. The New Zealand FTA promises new opportunities for agricultural exports and women’s empowerment, while the UK deal bolsters India’s IT sector.
Turning to welfare, Nadda lambasted the opposition for hollow slogans like ‘Garibi Hatao,’ which he said bred middlemen and corruption while exploiting the poor as vote banks. In contrast, the Modi government has delivered: 25 crore people lifted above the poverty line, 3 crore more houses underway, 12.5 crore tap water connections, and 10 crore gas connections.
Social security now covers 95 crore citizens, with Rs 6.75 lakh crore transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer. India boasts the world’s largest health coverage, insuring 62 crore people up to Rs 5 lakh for critical illnesses under Ayushman Bharat. Elderly citizens, once burdened by medical costs, now access free treatment confidently. A recent report shows 90 percent of cancer patients starting treatment within 30 days of diagnosis.
Nadda’s speech painted a picture of an empowered India, blending economic dynamism with inclusive welfare, setting the stage for a prosperous future.
