In a shocking case from Jharkhand’s Palamu district, a mother has been accused of forcing her 13-year-old daughter into marriage with a 55-year-old man before fleeing with her boyfriend. The father returned from work to uncover this nightmare and rescued his daughter from what he called ‘hell.’
The incident unfolded in the Navajaypur police station area. The minor girl told police her mother fabricated a story about her father’s death in Surat, Gujarat, to trick her into the marriage two months ago. The mother handed her over to Prabhakar Kumar Mishra, a 55-year-old resident of Bishrampur, clearing her path for an illicit affair.
When the father returned home from labor work in Surat, he found his daughter missing. After a frantic search, he located her in a rented house in Medininagar’s Shriram Path area and brought her back. Tearfully, the girl revealed the horrific ordeal, including how Mishra had kept her confined like a captive.
Palamu police sprang into action under SP Reeshma Rameshan’s directives. Sadar police station teams raided the location, arrested Mishra, and rescued the girl, handing her over to the Child Welfare Committee for counseling. Charges under POCSO Act, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, and kidnapping have been filed against the accused.
The mother, who abandoned her daughter after the forced marriage, remains at large with her lover. Police are now hunting for this woman whose actions have shattered a child’s life. This case highlights the urgent need for stricter vigilance against child marriages and parental neglect in vulnerable communities.
Authorities assure the public that justice will be served swiftly, and the minor’s safety and rehabilitation are top priorities. The incident has sparked outrage, prompting calls for community awareness programs to prevent such atrocities.
