Washington is buzzing with optimism as bipartisan American lawmakers hail the newly inked trade agreement with India as a pivotal strategic reset. This landmark pact between the world’s two largest democracies promises to supercharge bilateral trade, bolster energy security, and deepen collaboration on the global stage.

Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, speaking exclusively to reporters, described the deal as a ‘much-needed shift’ after a challenging period marked by hefty tariffs that strained ties and hurt both economies. ‘This is a forward-looking step for one of America’s most vital partnerships,’ he emphasized, highlighting how expanded trade with India—a friendly democracy and key strategic ally—will empower workers, businesses, and innovation in cutting-edge technologies across both nations.

The agreement arrives at a critical juncture, allowing both sides to move past previous frictions. Senator Steve Daines called it a ‘clear win for all,’ praising President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering relations in the right direction. He pointed to India’s massive market—now the world’s fourth-largest economy—as a goldmine for American exports, particularly in agriculture and energy. Daines noted that India’s pivot from Russian oil to American supplies sends a powerful message worldwide, though he cautioned that more work remains on balancing trade flows.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch labeled the deal a ‘major accomplishment,’ congratulating Trump and welcoming India’s moves to ease trade barriers. With deep people-to-people ties, India stands as a close partner, and this pact holds strategic weight. Risch argued that India’s increased purchases from the US will counter Russia’s aggressive policies, support efforts to end the Ukraine conflict, and reduce Moscow’s energy leverage.

Senator Lindsey Graham echoed this, linking the deal to mounting pressure on nations buying Russian energy. ‘India deserves this concession, and others should follow suit,’ he said, predicting that intensified pressure will force Russia to the negotiating table. As Washington and New Delhi eye stronger ties in trade, energy, and the Indo-Pacific, this agreement marks a new chapter in their enduring partnership, fostering economic growth and geopolitical stability.
