Ranchi is bracing for continued chilly weather in Jharkhand until Maha Shivratri on February 15. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday that cold conditions will persist across the state, with temperatures expected to rise gradually afterward, ushering in the summer heat.

Experts predict a shift in weather patterns post-festival. While mercury levels will climb, some areas might witness light showers that could temporarily cool things down. However, this respite will be short-lived as temperatures surge rapidly soon after.

Current readings show maximum and minimum temperatures above normal in several districts. Bokaro and Chaibasa recorded highs 2 degrees Celsius above average, while Ranchi and Jamshedpur saw minimums 1 degree higher than usual. Daltonganj bucked the trend slightly with a cooler minimum, 1 degree below normal, but its maximum stayed close to seasonal norms.

Over the past 24 hours, Chaibasa hit the highest mark at 29.4°C, contrasting sharply with Gumla’s low of 7.8°C. Monday’s conditions in Ranchi featured partly cloudy skies, moderate winds, warmth under direct sunlight, and a chill in the shade.

    Detailed city-wise data: Ranchi max 25.2°C/min 11.4°C; Jamshedpur max 28.4°C/min 14.4°C; Daltonganj max 27°C/min 9.1°C; Bokaro max 27.5°C/min 10.1°C; Chaibasa max 29.4°C/min 13.6°C.

Residents are advised to prepare for the transitional weather. Layered clothing remains essential until mid-February, after which lighter attire will be needed as heatwaves loom. Farmers and daily wagers should monitor updates closely, as erratic rains could impact agricultural plans.

The IMD urges vigilance during this period of flux, emphasizing the importance of staying informed amid climate variability. As Jharkhand transitions from winter’s grip to summer’s intensity, timely preparedness will be key to comfort and safety.
