New Delhi is set to ignite the volleyball scene with the official launch of the Delhi Pro Volleyball League (DPVL). Spearheaded by the Delhi Volleyball Association and Delhi Olympic Association, this ambitious venture promises to elevate the sport to professional heights.
Former national volleyball stars Niti Rawat and Jasoda Guliya unveiled the league amid great enthusiasm. Featuring six dynamic franchises, DPVL will draw talent not just from Delhi but across India. Open trials in the coming months will scout and select players, ensuring a merit-based entry into this competitive arena.
Kuldip Vats, President of the Delhi Olympic Association and Joint Secretary of the Volleyball Federation of India, graced the event and pledged unwavering support. ‘Delhi has always been a breeding ground for top volleyball talent,’ Vats declared. ‘DPVL arrives at the perfect moment, offering players a professional pathway while bolstering volleyball at state and national levels.’
Sudhir Vats, President of the Delhi Volleyball Association, echoed this sentiment. He highlighted how the league will identify, nurture, and sustain Delhi’s volleyball prodigies. With a transparent structure and ample opportunities, DPVL aims to set a benchmark for state-level professional leagues in India.
Co-founder Jasoda Guliya outlined the league’s long-term vision: a professionally governed ecosystem providing stability for players, franchises, and partners. ‘This isn’t just about matches,’ she emphasized. ‘It’s about building a sustainable sports framework where talent thrives, earns, and competes globally.’
Niti Rawat, the other co-founder, pointed to a critical gap in Delhi’s sports landscape. ‘We have the talent, but professional platforms are scarce,’ she said. ‘DPVL will provide clear exposure, recognition, and high-level competition for athletes.’
The launch event also honored Delhi’s junior boys’ and girls’ teams, with the boys’ squad recently clinching runners-up in the National Championship. This recognition underscores the urgent need for platforms like DPVL to propel young careers forward.
As preparations gear up, volleyball enthusiasts eagerly await the trials and the inaugural season, marking a new chapter for the sport in the capital.
