In a stunning blow to drug and arms smuggling networks, Punjab Police in Amritsar have confiscated a massive haul of 42.983 kilograms of heroin along with an arsenal of weapons. The operation, carried out by Amritsar Rural Police with assistance from Village Defense Committees (VDC), led to the arrest of two local smugglers.
DGP Gaurav Yadav announced the breakthrough on social media platform X, highlighting the recovery of four hand grenades, one Star Mark pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridges, and an abandoned motorcycle. ‘This is one of the largest seizures of narcotics and arms in recent times in the state,’ he stated, underscoring the police’s commitment to dismantling such syndicates.
The bust comes just days after another significant operation on January 27, where Amritsar Commissionerate Police nabbed four suspects linked to cross-border smuggling. That raid yielded 1.5 kg of heroin, two sophisticated pistols, ammunition, and drug money worth nearly 2 lakh rupees. Investigations revealed connections to handlers abroad and Pakistani traffickers via social media.
Preliminary probes indicate the latest contraband was smuggled across the border under instructions from overseas operatives, destined for distribution across Punjab. Authorities have registered FIRs and intensified surveillance to trace fleeing accomplices and unravel the larger conspiracy.
Punjab Police vows to eradicate organized crime, narcotics trade, and illegal arms proliferation. Enhanced technical monitoring, intelligence networks, and community cooperation are key pillars of their strategy to secure peace in the border state. This dual success signals a robust crackdown on terror-drug nexuses threatening regional stability.
