Beijing, January 28 – A sweeping CGTN survey of global internet users has exposed deep international unease over America’s ‘America First’ foreign policy. An overwhelming 90.7% of respondents condemned the United States for shirking its responsibilities in global governance while aggressively pursuing dominance, labeling it a textbook case of hegemonic diplomacy.
This sentiment comes amid a flurry of criticisms and protests as the US has formally withdrawn from key institutions like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris Climate Agreement. The poll reveals that 57.8% believe these exits will severely hamper global efforts on public health and climate governance.
The US still owes the WHO a staggering $260 million, with 81.9% of respondents urging immediate repayment. Since 2026, America has pulled out of numerous international bodies covering climate, health, education, culture, refugees, and sustainable development.
A resounding 83.4% criticized the US as a ‘non-responsible major power’ for its inaction, while 85.3% argued that the ‘America First’ approach has badly damaged America’s national image and global standing. As nations grapple with these shifts, the survey underscores a growing call for more collaborative global leadership.
