In a shocking incident that sent ripples of fear through Patna’s legal corridors, security personnel at the Patna Civil Court apprehended a gunman armed with a loaded revolver on Wednesday. The dramatic arrest unfolded at Gate No. 1, where the suspect attempted to enter the premises under suspicious circumstances alongside an accomplice.
Eyewitnesses described how the duo tried to slip past security checks, but vigilant guards spotted the irregularity and swiftly intervened. One assailant, identified as Piyush Kumar from Vaishali district, was nabbed on the spot after a loaded pistol was recovered from his possession. His partner, however, exploited the chaos to flee the scene.
The court complex erupted in panic as news of the weapon spread like wildfire among lawyers, court staff, and litigants. Senior police officers, including Town DSP-1, rushed to the site with reinforcements. The arrested man was immediately taken to Pir Bahor police station for intense interrogation.
Patna SSP Kartikey Sharma addressed the media, confirming that police forces are routinely deployed at the court for security. ‘We recovered a weapon and cash from the suspect. His associate is still at large, and our teams are conducting a manhunt. Interrogations will reveal his exact motives, but the loaded gun suggests plans for a major crime, possibly targeting a prisoner on trial or a lawyer,’ Sharma stated.
Lawyers expressed outrage over the breach, demanding stricter checks at entry points. ‘Had the guards not acted decisively, this could have turned into a courtroom massacre,’ one advocate remarked. The incident underscores growing concerns over courthouse security in Bihar’s capital, prompting calls for enhanced surveillance and metal detectors.
As investigations deepen, authorities are piecing together the suspect’s background and potential gang affiliations. This close call serves as a stark reminder of the threats lurking in public spaces, especially judicial ones where high-stakes cases often invite vendettas.
