In a shocking incident that has gripped Purnia, Bihar, a young man named Suraj Yadav was gunned down in broad daylight amid a heated dispute over a girl. The confrontation erupted near Basant Bihar Fun City Park in the Maranga police station area, turning a community panchayat into a battlefield with over 10-15 rounds of gunfire exchanged.
The trouble began three days ago when a social media content creator from Nevalal Chowk filmed a video with schoolgirls during Saraswati Puja. The footage caught the eye of one girl’s boyfriend, who responded by abducting and assaulting the creator. Tensions simmered until both sides gathered 15-20 people for a mediation meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
What was meant to be a peaceful resolution spiraled into chaos. As arguments intensified, shots rang out. Suraj Yadav, who had come to mediate, was caught in the crossfire. His bodyguard could do nothing as assailants from the opposing group fired fatally at him.
Police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. Sources indicate the shooters are habitual offenders, prompting raids on their suspected hideouts. The brazen attack in full public view has raised serious questions about law and order.
Former Purnia MP Santosh Kushwaha slammed the state government, declaring that daylight murders are becoming routine in Bihar. ‘The administration’s grip is slipping, and criminals no longer fear the police,’ he stated. Eyewitnesses, including Yadav’s bodyguard, recounted the horrifying sequence of events, underscoring the fragility of peace in the region.
