Cape Town, January 25 – Sunrisers Eastern Cape etched their name in history once again, securing their third SA20 championship with a commanding six-wicket victory over Pretoria Capitals in the 2025-26 season final at Newlands on Sunday.
The franchise, which dominated the league in 2023 and 2024, bounced back after missing out last year to MI Cape Town. Batting first after losing the toss, Pretoria Capitals stumbled early, slumping to 1-2 after just 1.1 overs. Dewald Brevis sparked a recovery with a blistering 101 off 56 balls, featuring seven fours and eight sixes, in partnership with Bryce Parsons for 96 runs.
Parsons departed for 30 off 30, but Brevis anchored the innings, pushing the score to a competitive 158-7. Marco Jansen starred for Sunrisers with 3-10, supported by Lutho Sipamla and Anrich Nortje.
Chasing 159, Sunrisers lost Jonny Bairstow for a duck at 5-1, followed by Quinton de Kock’s brisk 18 off 15. At 48-4, the match hung in balance until Matthew Breetzke and captain Tristan Stubbs unleashed an unbeaten 114-run stand off 64 balls. Breetzke’s 68 off 49 (5 fours, 2 sixes) and Stubbs’ 63 off 41 (2 fours, 4 sixes) sealed a 19.2-over triumph.
This victory cements Sunrisers’ status as SA20 powerhouse, thrilling fans with resilience and firepower under pressure.
