In his latest ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the vibrant spirit of Indian culture thriving across the globe, with a special spotlight on the deep-rooted ties between India and Malaysia. Speaking on January 25 from New Delhi, PM Modi emphasized how Indian festivals are joyously observed worldwide, thanks to the unwavering efforts of the diaspora in preserving and promoting their heritage.
PM Modi drew attention to Malaysia’s impressive network of over 500 Tamil schools, where not only the Tamil language but also other subjects are taught in Tamil. He noted the equal emphasis on languages like Telugu and Punjabi, showcasing the rich linguistic diversity of Indian origins. This educational initiative stands as a testament to the diaspora’s commitment to cultural continuity.
Praising the Malaysia India Heritage Society, the Prime Minister lauded their role in strengthening historical and cultural bonds. The society organizes heritage walks that explore sites linking the two nations, alongside various cultural programs that foster mutual understanding and appreciation.
A highlight of the broadcast was PM Modi’s mention of the ‘Laal Paad Saree’ iconic walk held in Malaysia last month. This event, featuring the iconic Bengali saree deeply embedded in Bengal’s cultural fabric, set a record for the largest number of participants wearing it, earning an entry in the Malaysian Book of Records. The occasion was further enlivened by captivating performances of Odia dance and Baul music, which mesmerized the audience.
Through these examples, PM Modi underscored the global reach of Indian culture, urging continued efforts to nurture these connections. The ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episode served as a heartfelt reminder of how shared heritage unites communities across borders, inspiring pride and unity among Indians everywhere.
