New Delhi’s political circles are buzzing after BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla unleashed a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, likening his mindset to that of Indira Gandhi during the infamous Emergency era. The remarks came in response to explosive statements from former Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad, who has publicly exposed what he calls Rahul’s insecurities and leadership failures.
Poonawalla, in a widely shared video, highlighted Ahmad’s revelations that Congress lost the Bihar assembly elections due to internal ticket scams, not voter fraud as Rahul claims. ‘Shakeel Ahmad has laid bare Rahul Gandhi’s true character,’ Poonawalla asserted. He pointed out how Rahul fixates on baseless allegations of SIR and vote theft while ignoring the party’s own shortcomings.
Ahmad didn’t hold back, branding Rahul as India’s most insecure and immature politician, solely responsible for Congress’s downfall. He accused Rahul of sidelining strong party veterans in favor of outsiders, even rejecting Sonia Gandhi’s loyalists. ‘Rahul doesn’t tolerate capable leaders within Congress,’ Ahmad said.
Poonawalla amplified these claims on X, calling Rahul the ‘most cowardly leader in Indian politics.’ He mocked Rahul’s ‘Save Constitution’ campaign as meaningless, especially since even Muslim voters in Bihar deny any vote tampering. Congress, Poonawalla argued, now lurks in the shadows, hoping for BJP’s stumble rather than building its own strength.
This internal Congress rift underscores a deeper crisis. As opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Rahul’s leadership is under intense scrutiny. Poonawalla’s critique resonates amid Congress’s string of electoral defeats, raising questions about the party’s future direction and Rahul’s ability to unite it. The debate rages on social media, with BJP supporters hailing Ahmad’s candor and Congress loyalists dismissing it as sour grapes.
