In a spine-chilling incident that has shaken Bihar’s capital Patna, a minor girl was set ablaze by a jilted lover in a fit of rage. The brutal attack unfolded in Sampatchak Bairiya under Gopalpur police station limits, leaving the community in shock. The victim, who fought for her life for five agonizing days in the hospital, breathed her last on January 22, succumbing to her severe burns.
The horror began on January 17 when the accused, Aditya Kumar, who had been obsessively stalking the girl due to unrequited affection, ambushed her on the road. Without warning, he doused her with petrol and ignited it, turning her into a human torch. Eyewitnesses described a heart-wrenching scene as the flaming girl ran about 100 feet down the street, screaming ‘Save me! Save me!’ in desperation. Local shopkeepers and passersby rushed to her aid, somehow extinguishing the flames.
Rushed to Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH), the girl battled 80% burns across her body. Despite the medical team’s valiant efforts, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Her mother, Seema Devi, lodged a formal complaint against Aditya on January 18, prompting a swift police investigation. Forensic teams scoured the scene for evidence, and the victim’s dying declaration was recorded.
Under mounting pressure from police raids, Aditya surrendered at Patna Civil Court on January 23 evening. Authorities have sent the body for postmortem and are pushing for a speedy trial to ensure the perpetrator faces the harshest punishment possible. This monstrous act has ignited outrage, demanding justice for the innocent victim whose life was cruelly snuffed out.
