Jabalpur/Ujjain, January 23. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav issued a stern warning on Friday following a violent clash between two communities in Tarana town of Ujjain district. Addressing the media in Jabalpur, he asserted that his government is fully equipped to deal with anyone attempting to disrupt law and order in the state.
The confrontation erupted late Thursday night over a minor dispute that quickly escalated into a physical assault. Reports indicate that unidentified individuals allegedly attacked a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) member and his associate, one of whom is said to be an office-bearer of a Hindu organization. Tensions boiled over on Friday when members of both communities reportedly hurled stones at each other, prompting swift police intervention.
Viral videos circulating on social media captured the chaotic scenes of stone-pelting from both sides, heightening public concern. In response, the Ujjain district administration imposed a curfew under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and conducted flag marches to restore calm.
Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma confirmed that at least 20 individuals have been arrested and are under interrogation. ‘Police teams are patrolling the streets, appealing to residents to maintain peace,’ he said. Efforts are underway to identify culprits through CCTV footage, while meetings with community leaders aim to prevent further escalation.
CM Yadav reiterated his government’s commitment to good governance. ‘We advocate continuous good administration and take a firm stand wherever there are lapses. Our administration is capable of handling anyone who tries to disturb the state’s peace,’ he declared. Despite the situation being under control, heavy security deployments remain in place to avert any recurrence.
Authorities have warned against spreading rumors that could incite panic, emphasizing vigilant monitoring. This incident underscores the challenges of maintaining communal harmony in sensitive areas, with the government signaling zero tolerance for violence.
