A chilling discovery has gripped Mumbai’s Jari Mari neighborhood after locals stumbled upon the lifeless body of a one-day-old infant girl near a secluded spot. The incident, reported early Wednesday, has sparked outrage and prompted a swift police response.
According to Sakinaaka police, the newborn was found unconscious beside the airport wall adjacent to the Muslim Society in Sevaknagar. Patrol officers rushed to the scene following a tip-off to the control room. Upon arrival, they cordoned off the area, conducted preliminary inquiries, and transported the baby to Rajawadi Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital pronounced the infant dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the exact cause of death, but initial assessments suggest the child may have perished shortly after birth. The baby, described as fair-skinned with curly hair and about 1.5 feet long, was found completely naked.
Investigators suspect the child was abandoned in a desperate bid to conceal an illegitimate birth, possibly driven by social stigma or fear of disgrace. ‘We’re exploring all angles, including checking CCTV footage from nearby areas and reaching out to local hospitals and clinics for delivery records,’ a senior police officer told reporters.
The case has been registered against an unknown perpetrator under relevant sections. Door-to-door inquiries are ongoing, and forensic teams are analyzing the site for clues. Community leaders have condemned the act, calling for stricter measures against female infanticide and child abandonment.
As the probe intensifies, authorities assure the public that justice will be swift. This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of persistent societal issues surrounding unwanted pregnancies and the vulnerability of newborns in urban India.
