In a shocking incident that has stunned Ahmedabad, a high-ranking official with the Gujarat Maritime Board shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself. The tragedy unfolded late Wednesday night in the upscale Bodakdev-Thaltej area, inside the NRI Tower apartment complex.
Yashraj Singh Gohil, a Class-1 officer and nephew of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, married Rajeshwari just two months ago. The couple resided in the high-rise building, but a heated argument escalated into violence around 10:30 PM. Yashraj allegedly used his licensed revolver to fire at Rajeshwari, then called emergency services (108). Paramedics arrived to declare her dead on the spot. Moments later, he retreated to another room and ended his own life with the same weapon.
Residents, jolted by the gunfire, alerted the police. A rapid response from law enforcement, including the crime branch and Deputy Commissioner of Police, sealed the premises. Forensic experts combed the flat for evidence, while additional security was deployed.
Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi expressed profound grief, describing Yashraj as a promising young officer recently appointed to the Maritime Board and preparing for UPSC exams. The family is devastated by this double loss.
Senior police officials confirmed no prior complaints from the couple. Investigations are underway, including interviews with family, neighbors, forensic analysis, license verification, and call records. Both bodies underwent post-mortem as authorities probe every angle to uncover the motive behind this heartbreaking event.
